BING BANG started out as being novelty percussion performance group made up of Melbourne High School and Central Middle School students with varying degrees of musical and percussion talent. The brainchild of Karen van Oene, Bing Bang was designed to bring the experience of percussion performance, comedy and theatrics to advance music students of the percussive persuasion who are interested in sharing their unique personalities with audiences that can tolerate them. They are usually made up of the kids who attract attention because of their unique ability to entertain and/or have Chronic Rudimental Surface Tapping Disorder, or CRSTD, (not to be confused with any other STD) a syndrome not yet researched where the individual continuously beats out rhythms (real ones...in tempo) with hands, sticks, or other devices on desks, knees, or other surfaces readily available. Profits from Bing Bang concerts do not go to the study of this disorder as we don't need a cure at the moment. Profits of Bing Bang do go towards buying new percussion instruments for the band rooms and individual scholorships to poor starving percussionists majoring in music. Please support your local percussionists and attend a Bing Bang concert!
