They look like a couple of
regular people but who are these two old drummers and why would you
want them instructing your percussionists?
Meet Rich: Currently, Rich is the
coinstructor for Melbourne High School and gives private lessons in
Brevard and Orange Counties. Having had years of experience as a
freelance musician in Florida and California, Rich has performed in
night clubs, jazz clubs, jazz festivals and recording
studios. He has performed with noted musicians and artists
including Barry and Andy Gibb, Cab Calloway, The Smothers Brothers,
Della Reese, The Drifters, Kathy Lee Gifford, the Tommy
Dorsey Orchestra, Ron Hendricks, Eddie Harris, the Del Baroni
Orchestra and the Peter Graves Orchestra."
As a classical percussionist he has performed with the Ft.
Lauderdale Symphony Orchestra, Miami Opera, Broward
Symphony Orchestra, Palm Beach Orchestra,
Palm Beach
Opera, Miami Dade Orchestra, Florida Chamber
Orchestra, Miami Percussion Ensemble and
Festival Chorus and Orchestra. Rich was also a staff
drummer and conductor at Disneyland and has years of
experience instructing drumline in South Florida as well as touring
schools with an instructional performance group. At this time
Rich is the full time Vice President of Braishfield Associates
Inc. He is currently and active member of the Percussive Arts
Society. Rich brings an
exclusive concept to his clinics and gets
extraordinary results where ever he teaches.
Meet Karen: Currently Karen is the
instructor for Cocoa High School Drumline and percussion
ensemble, Cocoa Drum Club, Astronaut High School Drumline and
is the Clincian for the Central Middle School percussion
section. She dedicates all her free time as a mom and
instructor. She takes a few private
students and is the creator of Bing Bang,
a novelty percussion performance group dedicated to raising money
for percussion instruments for the High School and Middle School.
After majoring in percussion performance
at Florida State University School of Music where she was
also a snare drummer for the notorious Big Eight Drumline of
the Marching Chiefs, Karen continued with her music while
working in South Florida. She was in various show bands, the
Broward Symphony Orchestra, the BCC Percussion Ensemble and was a
stand in percussionist for the Sunrise Musical Theater. Excelling in
drum corp style percussion, she instructed Drumline for
the University of Miami Marching Camps for several
years where she developed her flair for teaching. While
raising a family and attending Keene State in New
Hampshire, Karen was a percussionist for the Keene
Chamber Orchestra. She is also an
active member of the Percussive Arts Society. Karen's
unique and demonstrative approach to instructing young
percussionists creates a camaraderie and excitement that is a joy to
experience. |
